On Tuesday morning, we enjoyed another quiet morning inside and did a little more trip planning for next week. We decided to add Dinosaur National Monument to our plan for Sunday, so we'll be leaving Estes Park a day earlier than planned. That said, a pretty good snowstorm is scheduled for Friday into Saturday, so that could affect our Sunday travel plans.
After lunch we headed to Lake Estes, a reservoir created by the damming of the Big Thompson River, to take a full lap around, roughly 4 miles. It was pretty as always. Wildlife sightings included an eagle, a few chipmunks, and one herd of 10 elk just across the road. The walk was long but easy and we were finished in two hours which included a pit stop for some browsing at the local outdoor gear store.

This herd of 14 elk cows were just hanging out, munching on grass next to the road. They weren't bothered by the traffic or humans at all. |

This was taken at the highest point on the trail around Lake Estes. The mountains were in view the whole time as we walked. |

I couldn't resist climbing up on these boulders. |

Gorgeous view with the reservoir in the foreground, mountains in the distance. |
In the evening we had an early dinner and continued our re-watch of Deadwood, adding five episodes.
