May 26 - Oregon

We were up early today as we often are with early light. We got packed up and headed to the campground beach for a stroll. We could see it was near low tide, and we crossed a tidal "stream" and headed over to some stacks right at the waterline.

We were amazed to see the rich ecosystems contained in these stacks. Barnacles, mussels, sea stars, anemones, and lots of other organisms were all there to be observed. We could hear the mussels clicking as they waited for the sea to return. Before long, it appeared the tide was coming in and we were worried we might be cut off by the first "stream."  Google confirmed this, and we expected large tidal shifts this far up the coast. We quickly headed back, crossing the stream (and realizing it was a spring probably unaffected by tides) and left, heading up the Oregon coast.

We spent time alternating between the coast and just a few miles off it, heading up Highway 101. The coast was rocky in the beginning but changed more to sandy beaches as we headed more north. We stopped for a charge and lunch in North Bend. Lunch was in a depressing, run down mall at an overpriced Mexican place.

We continued up the coast, arriving at the Cape Lookout State Park campground around 4pm. We settled in and then headed out to see the Tillamook outlet in Tillamook. On arrival we picked up a surprise charge at the Tesla stations and went inside for dinner. Haley had the mac n cheese and I had the cheese curds. Both were very good. We didn't want to wait in line for ice cream (it was CRAZY busy there), so we got a pint to go and headed back to our campground.

We got back a few hours before sunset, so we enjoyed time on the beach and then lit the fire at our campsite. While this campground wasn't nearly as nice as the one we had last night, it was fine and we could hear the waves even if we couldn't see the beach. We also got showers, which were appreciated. We were tucked in just as it got dark.
