June 6 - Glacier Bay National Park

After going to bed so early, Leon was the first one up around 6:30. He felt mostly better and hoped this would be just a 24 hour virus (that didn't turn out to be the case - as of this writing, he is still coughing and hacking with a very congested head).

Glacier Bay National Park is a seafaring park, meaning you get to experience from a boat primarily. One of the reasons we choose to travel to Alaska on Holland America Line is because their one-way itinerary always includes Glacier Bay - they only allow 2 cruise ships in per day, and HAL has priority to get into the park due to them being the first cruise line to cruise in Alaska.

The best wildlife watching was first thing in the morning: we passed a small island with a dozen or so sea lions. Four humpback whales were also seen right beside the island.

Haley got up and we spent the rest of the morning watching wildlife and glaciers mostly from our balcony. It was quite chilly, so we were able to go in to get warm, then back out again. Breakfast was delivered to the room, and 15 minutes later delivered again. Obviously, they had a mix-up in the kitchen, so we sent the second one back.

Sea otters were the most common wildlife as dozens were seen throughout the day.

We saw a few more humpback whales from a distance, and Leon happened to briefly catch a few orcas while lounging in the spa mid-afternoon.

Lunch was in the dining room but was disappointing since they had one appetizer, one dessert, and two entrees to choose from. I've never seen this in the dining room for lunch before. We both had the halibut fish and chips which were pretty good.
The views continued to be stunning throughout the day - while we were in Glacier Bay, the water was like glass giving us great reflective views of the mountains and the glaciers.

During the afternoon we checked out different spots to wildlife watch and Leon had two spa cycles, one for Haley. We also enjoyed the jazz band during happy hour and continued to watch glaciers and tall mountains before and after dinner.

The second dressy night was tonight in the dining room, and we enjoyed selected the same menu items: Escargot, Shrimp Cocktail, and Tenderloin Filet Oscar.
