July 4 - Wyoming and Deadwood

We were up extra early again and got an early start out - 6:12 am to be exact. We had 277 miles to go before our next charging point, so we drove a bit slowly to make sure we made it. We looked for wildlife on our way out and were lucky enough to see a black bear! We stopped roadside and snapped a few pics before we moved on.

The weather was clearer this morning, so we got a nice sunny view of the Tetons on the way out of the park.

Mr. Bear was moving through the woods/brush near the road, so we got a number of pictures of him as he made his way to his next meal.

Western Wyoming was prettier than we expected with cool mountain formations and painted hills. We made good time and arrived in Caspar to charge around 11:30 am.

We charged and had extra spicy Chinese food at the nearby mall and were on our way east by 12:10. Since we were ahead of schedule, we decided to go straight to Deadwood instead of travelling up there the next day. We had a quick charging stop before we arrived in Deadwood.

We read there was a parade at 3:00 but it must have just finished when we pulled into town at 4:30. We skipped the 1876 museum and went to the Adams Museum which was likely better anyway. We toured quickly as the museum closed at 5:00. We split up in the museum and by seeing different areas and comparing notes at the end we got most of the full experience in about 25 minutes.

From there we headed to the old downtown area and really enjoyed it. As fans of the show Deadwood, it was really neat to learn that nearly all characters in the show (and maybe all) were real people of the time who settled the town. Most had roles as described in the show. Interactions of characters and most stories were likely fictionalized, but the show did a great job of using the actual people.

After a 30-minute tour of the main drags we headed to Custer for dinner and our hotel. Dinner was OK but took a long time, likely because it was July 4 and the kitchen was understaffed. From there we headed to the Econolodge, plugged in (just beating an Ionic 5 to the charger) and worked on our blog before we went to bed.
