And we're off!!

Saying goodbye to Birch

We packed our car on Tuesday morning, March 11, and hit the road. We left Birch in charge of the house and the cat, along with his brother & sister-in-law, who will be based at our house for the next couple of months while Riley goes through the FAA hiring process.

Our first stop was Greensboro, where we caught up with our dear friend Lori and her sweet daughter Avery. We enjoyed Hops burgers before hitting the road again to make it as far as Asheville. Here is a picture of us with Lori.

We traveled on to Asheville, stopping at the bottom of Old Fort to recharge for about 35 minutes (conveniently co-located with a Dairy Queen). We could see the remnants of Helene as we got further west. We are staying with Leah Broker while we are in the area. She lives very close to Swannanoa, so the signs of damage increased the closer we got to her house.

We arrived at her house before she got home, so we happily prepared dinner for us with smoked brisket we brought with us and some roasted veggies. The weather is absolutely gorgeous here, so we had some time outside together. Here we are together again!

We will be in WNC until Saturday, when takeoff again to drive to the Memphis area. More to come!
